Addressing Racism in Toronto’s Publicly Funded School System
The Urban Alliance on Race Relations received funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage for a project to examine systemic racism in the education system. Their project aims at addressing systemic racism in the education system and developing strategies to facilitate the full and active participation of ethno-racial, religious and cultural communities. The UARR identified four areas within the educational system that need to be addressed, including: Employment Equity, Curriculum, ESL-D/Heritage Classes, and the Safe Schools Act.
